The
Remedial Reading
Classroom
incorporates peer teaching - one of Dr. Grant Von Harrison's most important discoveries.
Peer Teaching, called
Paired Practice in this program, has proven successful in years of empirical
study and research. It is now an integral part of the Remedial
Reading Classroom.
Students interacting and teaching each other accelerates success. Speed, accuracy and
retention are all improved.
With The
Remedial Reading
Classroom you have:
- A scientifically researched reading program
that has been developed over 30 years by Dr. Grant
Von Harrison,
Professor of Education at Brigham Young University.
- A totally sequential teaching system using
Dr. Von Harrison's EASY-STEPS Phonetic Reading System.
- You may teach as many
as 24 students at the same time, or as few as two.
- Teacher directed Group Instruction and
student directed Paired Practice. Students use the prepared Paired Practice
Books.
- Stories, vocabulary development, and
comprehension are integrated into each lesson.
- As research
indicated, specific teaching procedures are more effective than others. A
complete teacher training and orientation module is included. Procedures on
how to teach phonetic sounds, phonetic words, blending, sight words.
sentences, oral and silent reading, fluency, spelling, vocabulary and
comprehension, and mastery checking are all taught in detail.
- Reviews are built-in. A picture dictionary
is included.
- The program includes thirteen supplemental
lessons to build the students' vocabulary to the 6th grade level, if
required.
